Letters from the Inside

The reading book i am working on is called "Letters from the Inside". The book's about a girl named Mandy who responds to an ad in a magazine for a pen pal. She begins to write this complete stranger from another country named Tracey. In the first letter Mandy writes:
"Um, what do i say now? I know what i won't do, and that's tell you my star sign, favourite group, favourite food, all about my sister and brother and the usual junk. If that's what you want, don't bother answering this letter, OK? That's not me."
After this letter is sent to Tracy, she writes back and asks questions to get to know Mandy a little better. And after a couple letters, Mandy begins to tell Tracy about school and her favorite bands and what magazines she reads, she even mentions her brother ans sister an explains how she feels about them; which is exactly what Mandy said she wouldn't do. Then as the letters go back and forth and travel, the pen pals become closer. And i believe this shows how the main character is dynamic and changes throughout the novel. At the beginning of the book, Mandy seems more interested in Tracy then as their relationship goes on longer, Tracy becomes more fond of Mandy.

Second Independent Reading Book!

My second independent reading book is "Invasion of the boy snatchers (a clique novel)" by Lisi Harrison. The book is about i guess you could say "gossip" between girls at a rich high school. The main character's name is Massie and she is practically the Queen of Gossip. She keeps a blog (like this one!) and updates her posts on all the latest trends, hook-ups amd break-ups. In the book it shows how her gossip conversations go.
"HOLAGURRL: HOW WZ ASPEN?
MASSIEKUR: GR8. AH-MAZING SNOW. HOW WZ SPAIN?
HOLAGURRL: LOCO.
HOLAGURRL: MY 13-YR-OLD COUSIN NINA CAME BACK WITH US. SHE'S GOING 2 SPEND THE SEMESTER @ OCD. WE R HAVING A WELCOME 2 WESTCHESTER FIESTA 4 HER 2MORROW NIGHT. EVERY 1 IS INVITED. BRIARWOOD BYZ 2!"

This quote is a conversation that is taking place on the IM on Massie's blog. Throughout this conversation Massie was sort of depressed because her best friend is going to move soon and shes the only one other than her besties brother that knows. But this conversation brought up Massies spirit by reminding her about her crush, and by telling her crush, it makes the book a little bit more interesting from this point on.

Book Talk.

The book talk in English class seemed pretty easy. At first i was scared that i wouldt remember the book or i would forget to say something important. So the night before the day of my Book Talk i re read little parts of all the chapters in the book and discovered how the main character Jo really is dynamic and how she changed throughout the novel. I really re-read everything so that i could get an idea for a visual aid or hook and re-reading the story did help. In class the next day no one was brave enough to present their book talks to Ms. Crabtree, except me. I was nervous but I wasn't going to back down because i had a lemon in my backpack and i didn't bring it for nothing! So as I was preparing for the book talk in class i realized that there really was nothing to worry about. Ms. Crabtree seemed to have a history with the book i read and as the Book Talk Presentation went on, it turned into a conversation that calmed my worries down. But when Miss had me identify a random passage from the book, i froze up..but i used my context clues;) and was able to tell what had happened before the passage had taken place. I was very proud of myself, I think my Book Talk was somewhat a success!

Dynamic Jo.

In the book "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott, the main character is Jo. The book is about four sisters who grow apart and find themselves as they get older. I would say Jo is a dynamic character because she starts off as a "tomboy" and begins to mature and become more sensitive throughout the novel. At first Jo says "I will never marry!' and she strongly believes that. At first Jo prefers to be alone and independent. After her younger sister's death, Jo begins to become very depressed and more sensitive to her emotions that she wasnt very much aware of in the beginning. And eventually Jo is able to fall in love with someone no one expected. Surprisingly Jo marries that man and has many children with him eventhough she had vowed to never marry or fall in love.

Twilight Yo.!

Okay. Everyone is trippin out on this book so i thought i should check it outt. It seems pretty kool. I dont see the huge deal about it; but i like it. I saw the movie before i read the book. I gotta say; the books better. The movie was alrightt. but the book really does give more details and helps connect you to the story. The theme i would have to say is "true love never fails". In the book, a young girl falls in love with a vampire. Sounds scary right.! But its cute. I would normally think of vampires as stupid and pointless; but this book gives them a reason. The book got more and more intense and yet romantic at the same time. Nice ending. Im sure most people have already read the book; and i know that forsure because thats the reason i read it.! Yet, i still suggest it to anyone and everyone to read. Even if you dont like reading(like me) you will most certainly get into this one.! wether you lke it or not.

All Is Fair In Love; War & High School?

I Love this book. It's start out kind of slow and sort of boring. But it's oh so cute. I absolutely love the ending. It was one of those books that you can't help but say "awwww". It's a shocker. Best kind of book you can read; the kind with an unexpecting ending. If i had to predict wat would happen next...i would say that the twoo main characters would become a couple & probably fight a lot. But it would be a very funny kind of relationship. The kind where you want to be kept inform of all the drama and keep reading on till like the seventh book. The main character Samantha is kind of a jerk; the kind of girl you see walking around school and you try not to make eye contact; but the second you really do talk to her; she's like really kool and down to Earth. Not shallow at all. She seems like a girl i would very much enjoy to meet and go to the movies with or something. A cool homiee G.

Odysseus And His Heroic Qualities;)

Odysseus. He was a fast thinking; witty guy. He was smart. He always seemed to be able to get out of even the toughest situations; much like how most of us think of when we think of heroes. He was independent; and brave. He risked his life very many times on his long journey and crazy adventures. He might be a hero in my book. He made a mark; a big enough mark to write a whole epic poem about. That's a hero in my book. He was known just about everywhere he went. BUT Odyssesus was a jerk. He put all his shipmates in danger just so he could see the Gods. He was shelfish unlike heroes today. He had no powers and it's somewhat not fair how he makes it through so many obstacles.

Themes.

A theme keeps the book going. If i can't get the theme of a book; then the book is gonna be really confusing and boring. If i don't understand the theme; or don't relate to the theme, I'll stop reading the book. A theme is really important to find in a book. It's practically crucial. It's not so hard to find a theme in a book. Most books have a really obvious theme.

My Reading Life This Year.

This year I haven't read much. I've started plenty books and finished about three. I'm not so sure. The books i Have read; taught me to appreciate my friends. I never realized how much friends make a difference in my life. I don't like reading; but when i can relate to it, i have fun. I have to really focus when reading a book. That's not an easy task for me. Which is why i haven't read many books. A good thing would be that I was able to focus on one book for over ten minutes. That was a big accomplishment for me. A bad thing; would be that i haven't read much! I don't feel so bad about that; but it isn't a good thing.

Always Laughing On A Fast Camel

I really do not like reading. I don't have an issue finding books that attract me, it's just that i can't stay focused on a book. I can't give all my attention to a book; it just doesnt work for me. But!. I love this book!! It's funny. Very funny. I am positive that I'll be able to focus on this particular book. I'm planning on stickin to it! I've never found a book that makes me laugh so much; and i've only got to the middle of the first chapter. I like this book very much. The main character's vocabulary cracks me up!! She's a funny chick. I feel Like i can relate to her. If she really exsisted; she would so totally be my BFF. I feel like she already is!! Haha. I'm totally looking forward to reading this whole book and being able to quote it. I'm already going to start quoting it. It's gonna be all over My Myspace!. ha. I think I'm going to HAVE to buy this book; and advise friends & relatives to read it. It's one of those books that a young girl like me can relate to and have fun reading; unlike most books.(:
